Cheese Straws

Yields: 5 Servings Difficulty: Easy

OK. Who doesn’t like cheese and bread? This recipe is truly easy since its pre-brought pastry dough. Less than 5 ingredients which makes it super easy and even great for a quick night time snack to eat while watching TV. My kids especially love these straws. They are really great for any occasion. Cook them and place them on any holiday table and be sure to see them disappear quickly!

  • Preheat oven to 425°. Mix cheddar, flour, scallions, and sesame seeds in a small bowl. I use McCormick Culinary Whole Sesame seeds.
  • Roll your puff pastry to 1/8"-thick on a piece of parchment, making sure it is 10” wide. Brush with whisked egg and sprinkle evenly with cheese mixture. I grate my cheddar cheese fine. I actually use this Professional Box Grater which works incredible. With minimal effort you can perfectly shred and slice cheese and vegetables.
  • Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice puff pastry widthwise into 3/4” thick strips. Slide parchment with strips onto a sheet tray and chill in the fridge for at least 20 minutes. I use KitchenAid Gourmet Pizza Wheel. Its dishwasher safe so no more worrying about how to clean stuck food from your pizza cutter! Simply place it in the dishwasher for a thorough full cleanup. I also use these Cuisinart Knives Set in white. This set is amazing and has superior high-carbon forged stainless steel blade for precision and accuracy.
  • Prepare another sheet tray by lining with parchment paper. Transfer half the strips to this tray and twist them to create spirals. Repeat with remaining straws. Place both trays back into the fridge for another 30 minutes before baking. I am always looking for new sheet trays. I use Nordic Ware Natural Aluminum Commercial Baker's Half Sheet trays. They are awesome!
  • Bake cheese straws until deeply golden and puffed, rotating and switching halfway through, 10 to 12 minutes.
