Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff to summer. There are so many fun outdoor activities to do during Memorial Day weekend. Beaches and boardwalks are open, family barbecues and friends gathering. While you are doing these fun things always remember it’s also important to take some time to honor the military men and women who have died while serving our country.

Gathering with family and friends is definitely an exciting time to kickoff summer. There are so many food options when hosting a barbecue. Grilling hot dogs, hamburgers, steaks, ribs and chicken are all so delicious however making side dishes are even more important to bring the meal together. Sides like potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw are just to name a few. Of course, appetizers are my thing so for Memorial Day barbecue my go to apps are all kinds of dips and salsas, chips, veggie platters, salads, antipasto and cheese and fruit platters.

What about an holiday appetizer? What is your favorite holiday appetizer? Kicking off summer on Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays. Kids swimming in the pool, the smell of the food cooking on the grill, music and cold drinks and playing corn hole is so much fun!

Here are two of our favorite holiday appetizers to serve on Memorial Day or bring to any barbecue.
